QUEEN ERIN SENDS HER CHRISTMAS MESSAGE

Dear Friends of Bo'ness,

As this year's Fair Queen, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. I am now halfway through my reign, and thus far, 2011 has been a fantastic year for me and it still remains a tremendous honour to have been chosen as this marvellous town's Queen.

There are obviously a great many people I owe a huge debt of appreciation to, particularly my parents, family and close friends.

Thank you also to Chairman, Mr. Jim Stewart and the Fair Committee for all their help leading up to the Fair day and on the wonderful day itself.

A special big thank you to everyone at the Grange School, not forgetting all the other primary schools who participated in my special day; to all the teachers, helpers, and proud parents, who year after year work so hard behind the scenes. To family and friends for their incredible effort involved in producing the many wonderful arches and house frontages, without them our Fair wouldn't be the unique and innovative spectacle it has been these past 103 years.

The Fair is a heart warming reminder to us all, of the long summer evenings and the enviable community spirit on these cold wintery nights. I hope that everyone is excited in the lead up to Christmas, as the children of Bo'ness are during the week before the Fair.

So on that note, I would like to wish the lovely people of Bo'ness and their many absent friends a Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year.

Peace & Goodwill

Queen Erin

BO'NESS CHILDREN'S FAIR FESTIVAL

The biggest day of the year here in Bo'ness has come and gone with one of the greatest reliefs after the weather we have had all week. A spot was felt just before the crowning as a dark cloud went overhead but 10 minutes later you could feel the heat as the sun came out just before Erin was crowned.
The crowning went of great with the retinue and presentees in immaculate colours not forgetting the fairies and flower girls outfits which were bright and sparkled in the sun.
A Nervous Frank McGarry and Marion McKay will be glad to have got through their new roll having some task to fill the shoes of the retired Douglas Snedden who watched on from the guests stand.
If you wish to send any your pictures to the website either arches or from today were will welcome them all, but on some occasions we cannot upload them all. info@thefairday.com

APPEALS ENVELOPES

For those who have made a donation by way of the Fair Envelope and miss the return of the collector, envelopes can be handed into the following;
Corvies, The Baby Box, Talking Heads, Shaz's Snacks and Hillcrest Store.

Friends.

As you may be aware, severe financial restraints have been placed on  Bo'ness Fair
and the level of support we have had from the Council cannot be assumed to  continue in future years.
The Fair Committee are exploring other avenues of income but the people of  Bo'ness have always been our other major income stream.
Bo'ness Fair is the largest children's festival in the UK and we should  rightly be proud of it.
However with reducing income from the Council, unless the gap is made up we will not be able to continue our Fair in its' current format.
Accordingly we, the Committee, are appealing for further support, in the  form of donations which can be made by way of this Standing Order Form
Alternatively “one off “donations can be made directly to the Fair Account.
Those who can support the Fair by way of the Standing Order, will have  their names
printed in the Fair Programme and a Fair Programme will be delivered to  their address. The completed Standing Order form can be returned to the address shown on
the form or alternatively to your Fair Appeals Week collector.
For those who have made a donation by way of the Fair Envelope and miss the return of the collector, envelopes can be handed into the following;
Corvies, The Baby Box, Talking Heads, Shaz's Snacks and Hillcrest Store.

We look forward to your continued support.

Yours Sincerely.

35 YEARS SEES THE END OF AN ERA

During the Annual General Meeting in Bo'ness Town Hall a huge gasp went around as they heard that commentator Douglas Snedden was stepping down after 35 years at the helm. Although Douglas never liked to mention his age it is with regret that he has decided to hang up his mic from the crowning ceremony. He will be missed by thousands who have attended the crowning over the years and he will be missed at the website but hopefully he will still be around should I need to call upon him.
Other changes sees Ian Paterson take over from Ian Lourie as Treasurer, Anne Ritchie moves to Schools Liaison Officer while Fiona Burns steps up to Appeals Convener and Shirley Purves steps into Appeals Vice Convener.
