04/11/07 - MEMORIES OF DAVIE HANNAH

David was a well known respected citizen of Bo'ness, who had Bo'ness Children's Fair Festival at his heart.

Bo'ness Children's Fair lost one of it's finest last Wednesday and as the news filtered through the town of the sudden death of David on the golf course on Wednesday afternoon 31st October while going round with Bo'ness Fair Chairman, Jeff Stewart.

Having known Davie since I first met him in 2001 while practicing for the Fair rehearsals, then it was the start of a friendship we were to keep although I was only 11 years old.

After moving to the Academy I would meet him in the street and he would ask how I was doing, and it went on for a few years meeting him at the football and the Fair while I was playing with the pipe band.

Last year was my first as a spectator and the first Davie had really got involved with the website handing in all his information on bands and the Procession once he finished his paperwork.

This was one of the reasons more work started to be developed on the website and we started to take the Fair build up not just to the people of Bo'ness but worldwide of the "Best Day of the Year."

Having grown up with his grand daughter Emily through our Academy years, he knew what I was up to and he always kept an eye on what was to become one of the most popular websites throughout the town.

Davie was embarking on the biggest procession ever this year, looking forward to the Centenary of the 100th Queen but this has been taken away from him.

The one thing he will look down on was watching his wife Eunice crown Queen Alexandria last year. This was the highlight of his 20 years of being Bo'ness Fair Procession Convenor and in his words made him the proudest man in Bo'ness on the Fair Day.

All our thoughts at this time go to Eunice, Craig, Lynn and families at this sad time.

Charlie.

18/12/06 - QUEEN'S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE

Dear All,

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. This has been an amazing year for me as it was such a huge honour to have been selected as Queen of Bo'ness Fair. There are many people to whom I owe special thanks, particularly my parents and members of my extended family. I'd also like to thank Mr Jeff Stewart and Mr Jim Stewart for all their advice and support prior to the Fair Day.

Not even the traditional Scottish weather could dampen my spirits on Fair Day and thanks to some amazing design skills by Norman I also got first prize for my arch.

Most importantly I'd like to say that Fair Day like Christmas is a huge social event for everyone in Bo'ness. Those who contributed or participated are to be commended for their enthusiasm. The turnout as always was phenomenal and showed tremendous community spirit; and on that note I'd like to wish the whole community a happy, safe and healthy festive season.

Kind regards                                                                                    Queen Sarah

03/07/06 - HEAD TEACHER Mrs MUIRHEAD SAYS "THANK YOU"

Just to say thank you for the super web site. You've done a great job keeping everyone up to speed on the Fair. The photos are great.. The site was a boon to the school when we were preparing for the Kirking Service -so thanks for that too.

Could I ask if you could squeeze in a 'thank you' message from me to all the children and their families, and the staff, of Grange Primary, for making the Fair such a success, despite the awful weather.

Queen Sarah was just radiant all day. Champion Declan looked magnificent on his horse - he was so desperate to ride in the procession! The Retinue, Presentees, Flower Girls and Fairies all did a wonderful job despite being cold and wet.

Normally, it's the children I hear saying 'it's no fair!' but yesterday it was me saying it. It was so unfair that everyone's hard work was spoiled by the rain, but our kids are Grangers and they pulled it off with style! I am so proud of them.

Carol Muirhead

30/06/06 - RAIN DOESN'T DAMPEN SPIRITS

Children from all schools were applauded and had a standing ovation from a five figure attendance at today's Crowning Ceremony in the Glebe Park. With Officials hoping the rain would stay at bay it decided to get heavier as the morning progressed. With the crowning over and nearly everyone expecting the presentations to be moved indoors or cancelled the presentees elected to give it a go. At this the applause around the Glebe Park was unbelievable. The presentees who have worked through long hours for this day decided it wasn't going to beat them and on they went with each getting a standing ovation when they went on stage.

All the main characters from Retinue, Fairies and Flower Girls were soaked by the end, but all still had that happy smile on their faces and the only ones shedding a tear were those who were connected to the children and stood back as the kids enjoyed what will still be a memorable day for them.

22/06/06 - ARCH AND FRONTAGE VIEWING REQUEST
Due to the demand by people wishing to know where the arches and frontages are we would like to hear from anyone who has a member of the Retinue, Presentee, Fairy or Flower Girl in their street and what school they attend. Please e-mail  webmaster@thefairday.com so we can build a registry of streets for the website. We do not require any names or addresses for this.
