SPORTSMAN'S DINNER

Saturday 7th November 2009

A Sportsman's dinner organised by the Entertainments Committee was held in the town hall.

Speakers were Chick Charnley , Hugh Burns and Paul Reed. Chair for the evening was Shuggy Naismith.

The evening got off to a great start when the Bo'ness United cup winning team of 1984 were introduced to the assembled guests.

Following this, much to the delight of the guests, Ian McQueen & Andy Dunlevie, the captains from 1976 & 1984 entered the hall, with the Scottish Junior Cup, draped in the BU's colours, to a rapturous round of cheers and applause.

After an excellent meal, Bill Braid introduced a ten minute film of the1984 cup final highlights, which brought even more cheers , the volume of which increased with both Lex Shields goals.

Lenny Reid, the 84 player coach , thanked the committee on behalf of the players and included some reminisces of the cup runs of 83 and 84.

The three guest speakers provided excellent entertainment but special mention must be given to Paul Reed who gave an absolutely brilliant performance mimicking countless personalities from Scottish football.

The Entertainments Committee should be congratulated for putting on such an enjoyable evening and boosting fair funds.

Special mention must be given to Alan Ford and Tom Burns of the Entertainments Committee who arranged and organised the evening and Jim Barrowman and his bar staff who made sure the audience were well catered for.

Alan and Tom have already booked Joe Cammy, John Gaghan and John Rowbotham ( ex referee ) for the 6th Nov next year for what should be another excellent night.
