Bo’ness Lose 1953 Queen Helen Gourlay

It is with regret and sorrow that we have to bring sad news to our community that Helen Stevenson (Gourlay) who was our Queen in 1953 has passed away.

Helen started her Fair journey in 1947 when selected to be a Fairy. Not happy with being a Fairy but in 1948 she became a Presentee along with her sister Dina as Maypole Dancers.

1949 came and was in the team again this time as a Fairy for the second time. 1950,51 & 52 Helen was missing from the Fair line up and in 1953 she reappeared this time with the highest accolade in the town when she was named as our Fair Queen.  A title that would carry with you your entire lifetime.

After leaving school she worked in Douds Drapery but her Fair Days were always to be seen with Carriden Band during the Procession.

Our Deepest Condolences to John (Stevie), Sharon, and Family. Dina & Scott at this sad time.

In the picture is Myra Taylor (Ex-Queen) Helen Gourlay (Queen). Margaret Lynch (Chief Lady in Waiting), George Morgan & Thomas Bivins (Queens Pages).
